March Newsletter
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Hello Roadrunner families,
Over the past few weeks, we’ve had lots of exciting things happening at the school, with trips and events, as well as a number of activities taking place in classrooms that help to extend the learning and build engagement for students. We do our best to ensure that all students have the opportunity to participate in these activities and events. If there is an activity coming up in your child’s class, but they may not be able to participate due to financial reasons, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school, and we can help to support families to ensure no one misses out on any co-curricular activities.
Term one report cards went home recently, and with them, a reflection on student progress to this point in the year. A couple of things to keep in mind when reading reports - one is that these are just the midway point, and there are lots of bits of feedback shared with families to help support student achievement and success for the remainder of the year. Another item to keep in mind is that students often are undertaking many of the same activities and tasks in individual subject areas, meaning that comments for students are sometimes similar from one to the next, as they are based on similar assessments and achievement connected to grade-level expectations. Comments and levels found in the Learning Skills section of the report, however, reflect items that influence achievement across all subject areas. This information can be instrumental in helping to improve things going forward, or share thoughts about how students can maintain their high levels of achievement in a variety of areas.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns about reports, or any other area of the school program, please reach out to your child’s teacher first, as they know your children well. If you require additional support, we’re available to connect from the school office.
Sincerely, Mr. Brock and Mr. Lobb, HCS Admin

Attendance
Did you know…
Consistent attendance helps students develop structure, punctuality, and responsibility, which are habits that carry into adulthood and future careers.
Life & Career Readiness
- Set goals around the learning skills and make a plan to work on them (e.g. using a planner or digital calendar to keep track of school and personal commitments)
- Use lists to keep track of routine tasks both at school and at home

Families are encouraged to check their child’s Google Classroom if they are unable to attend due to weather. Staff will be posting items for students to work on while at home.
Drop Off/Pick Up of Students
Each day families are balancing increasingly busier schedules and parents are required to drop off or pick up students outside of the school day hours. If your child(ren) is not arriving/leaving on the bus, please use the parking lot to pull in, walk to the front doors to drop off/pick up your child. To exit, please use the parking lot exit to access the roadway east or west.
At the beginning of the day by 8:40am. Buses are lined up down the driveway starting drop off at Door B (Kindergarten entrance) and we ask that parents not drive over our grass/lawn area outside of the driveway to exit between or around the buses. At dismissal buses will be in the drive, in front of the main doors starting at 3:05 pm as they safely park and prepare for our end of the day routine. Please do not pull in between the buses in the front of the school for safety reasons.
We ask that vehicles do not drive through the front driveway of the school at the beginning or end of the school day. This area is used for student dismissal and pick-up, and keeping it clear helps ensure the safety of all students. Parents will be required to park in the lot and walk to the doors to safely pick up their children.
Rock your Socks Day for Down Syndrome Awareness
Every year on March 21, people all around the world come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks. March 21 is symbolic because people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome. Socks were chosen because the karyotype of Ds chromosomes actually looks like mismatched socks! Huron Centennial will wear our mismatched socks on Friday March 13th, 2026
Purple Day-Epilepsy Awareness:
Thursday March 26th Purple Day is an international grassroots effort dedicated to increasing awareness about epilepsy worldwide. On March 26th annually, people in countries around the world are invited to wear purple and host events in support of epilepsy awareness. Huron Centennial will do our part in bringing awareness to all! Students are invited to wear purple on Thursday March 26th!
